Though I'm a teacher, I don't fancy learning English through formal education. Since a kid, I have such great passion in the English language that I used to read stories and retold them to my friends by translating them in Malay. Then I discovered English songs!! I just love them. Even more than any other languages. Again, i love sharing what i understood from the lyrics of the English songs I listened to with my friends who could not comprehend the messages the singers were trying to put across in their rendition. Of course when i reached the right age (my parents were really strict with me those days), I could then watch movies in English.
Despite that, I found that English lessons in classes were so boring and I dreaded every second of it. No wonder my friends who barely understood the language kept falling asleep during English periods!! They didn't find that the language is exciting as i did. I don't blame them. They didn't see the purpose of learning it, as they didn't use it at home or anywhere else outside of the classroom.
So, what's the relevance of this blog to learning English? My hope is this blog will be a platform for me and my students, and everyone out there to just have fun using English and run away from the boredom of teaching and learning it the formal way. So what say you? Can we give this blog a go???
